A Marion man accused of kidnapping and killing his ex-girlfriend in early 2013 has entered a guilty plea in the case.
28-year old Zachary Thien was accused of kidnapping 23-year old Megan Chipman from her home in Montpelier in January of 2013, shooting her three times and then dumping her body along highway 18 near downtown Marion.
Thien rejected earlier attempts to get him to accept a plea agreement in the case, but after rejecting one offer late last year, the Grant County Prosecutor’s office filed a motion to seek life in prison without the possibility of parole against Thien if her were convicted during a trial. That trial was scheduled for later this month.
With his plea, Thien could receive 50 to 90-years in prison when he’s sentenced in Grant County Circuit Court in May.
