A Marion teen’s sentencing hearing has been extended to today to allow for more witness testimonies in connection with the murder of a Gas City woman. 18-year-old Matthew Tyra pleaded guilty to murdering 28-year-old Ashley Rheam in her Gas City home in March of this year. Grant County Superior Court 2 Judge Dana Kenworthy heard testimony from several doctors and therapists who confirmed Tyra suffers from multiple psychological disorders. Some doctors claimed Tyra told them he was abused by his father and brothers and carried a lot of anger and resentment.
Co-defendant Tyrell Lenoir also testified yesterday, saying Tyra pulled the trigger the killed Rheam. Lenoir faces theft and assisting a criminal.
The sentencing hearing gets underway today (Tues) at 8am and is expected to conclude this afternoon. Tyra, though 17-years at the time of the murder, is being tried as an adult and could face up to 65 years in prison.
