Muncie developers have encountered an unexpected delay in the groundbreaking of the new Arc Teaching Hotel after discovering an underground street at the site. Muncie Mayor Dennis Tyler says the old, brick-paved street will need to be dug out before they can start construction.
Earlier this month, the Arc of Indiana joined Governor Mike Pence with officials and the community in announcing the creation of a training institute and hotel, designed to provide educational and employment opportunities for disabled workers in the field of hospitality.
Mayor Tyler says the discovery of the underground street is not really a burden and could even benefit the project as Arc officials will likely utilize the individual bricks as part of a fundraising effort toward the project.
Tyler says the Arc Training Institute and Hotel is still set to be operational in the summer of 2015.
