Upland Area House Destroyed By Flames Early Monday

by Sammy Edmonds posted Mar 11 2014 3:10PM
A home near Upland that was in the process of being remodeled was destroyed by flames early today.

Firefighters from Upland, Matthews and Fairmount were called to the house on State Road 26 just East of Upland just before 6 o’clock this morning after a passer-by noticed flames coming from the building.

It took firefighters over an hour to extinguish the flames, but no one was injured.

The house was vacant at the time and was in the process of being remodeled.  Investigators believe a ceiling fan was taken out while work was going on and then was improperly re-installed leading to the fire.

Upland Fire Chief Mike Howard said the house was considered a total loss.
