Via Credit Union Warns of Scam

by Sammy Edmonds posted Mar 20 2014 4:32PM
Via Credit Union in Marion and Blackford County is warning all bank customers of a phishing scam.  Via President and CEO Dave Abernathy says they’ve received thousands of calls from members and non-members saying they’ve received an automated call claiming to represent Via Credit Union.  The scammer says your Mastercard has been locked, and in order to unlock the account, press 1 and enter your 16-digit card number.
Abernathy says this is a scam to gain your bank account information.  He says to simply hang up and not enter any personal information.
Since the scam began, there have been reports of fraudulent activity in Mexico linked to victims’ accounts.
