Officials with General Electric say a wind turbine that lost one of its blades last week at a Tipton County wind farm may have been struck by lightning.
G-E makes the blades. The company said in a statement that lightning was the apparent reason a turbine in Tipton County lost one of its three blades late Wednesday night.
The “Kokomo Tribune” reports G-E will send an investigative team to the site to try and identify the cause of the malfunction.
Last Wednesday's blade separation was the second time in two months a blade has fallen from one of the Wildcat Wind Farm's 125 wind turbines since the site went online in December of 2012.
Part of a another blade separated from one of the farm's turbines near Windfall in early February.
