Though he officially took over the job July first, Doctor David Wright today was formally inaugurated as the 9th
president of Indiana Wesleyan University.
With a crowd of more than three-thousand faculty, staff, students and dignitaries on hand, Wright was inducted to succeed Doctor Henry Smith, who retired to become the school’s Chancellor.
Wright said the task before him is exciting but humbling. He told the crowd that he comes to the President’s office at IWU to serve, not be served.
Wright is an IWU graduate, though he received his degree in 1977 when it was still known as Marion College. He served in various positions at IWU over the years before being chosen as president last spring.
His inauguration serves as the highlight of IWU’s Homecoming weekend activities.
