Deer Hunter Accidentally Shoots Himself Saturday

Madison County authorities say a deer hunter accidentally shot himself Saturday evening while hunting southeast of Anderson.

Conservation officers say 50-year old Karl Stratton of Middletown was trying to retrieve a shotgun that was inside its’ case and hanging from a branch near his tree stand.  The gun’s safety was off at the time and it accidentally went off, striking Stratton in the upper right thigh.

After calling for help, Stratton was airlifted to St. Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis in fair condition.

Conservation officers stress to use extreme caution when hunting.
