After 19-years of trying, the Grant County Commissioners have officially given up efforts for the Garthwaite Road Extension Project.
The Commissioners yesterday voted to end efforts to extend Garthwaite Road from 38th Street to State Road 18. The Commissioners had been trying to gain federal and state grants and use Eminent Domain to extend the road as a means to help Stone Road when it floods. But plans never came together.
In a written statement, the Commissioners say costs have escalated to a point that it is no longer economically feasible for Grant County to pursue the project.
The statement said the Commissioners will explore other options which involve fewer federal regulations and cost much less.
