Gas City officials received word late last week that the K-Mart Store on the city’s east side will close in October.
A company spokesman said several K-Mart and Sears stores nationwide would be closing because of declining sales. He said some employees at the Gas City store could apply for positions at other K-Mart or Sears stores, though he was uncertain if other positions would be opening at nearby stores.
The Gas City K-Mart has been there since the 1960s, and survived several closing announcements over the pst few years until now.
A Liquidation Sale at the Gas City store could begin soon, but officials say the store won’t close until sometime in October.
