If you get a call saying someone in your family has been kidnapped or is in danger and you need to pay to keep them from getting hurt, it is likely a hoax.
Police in several Indiana communities have reportedly gotten such a call recently and the callers make it sound real and scary. Police believe it happens when someone is able to steal your phone contact list.
If you get such a call, you should call the police.
