Legal action taken of 2008 Universal Music fire

A growing list of artists has announced plans to sue Universal Music Group over the 2008 fire that destroyed over 500,000 master recordings. Lawyers claim that Universal didn’t disclose how much damage the fire did and are seeking $100 million in damages.

Soundgarden, Hole, Steve Earle and the estates for Tom Petty and rapper Tupac Shakur all filed a class action lawsuit on Friday.

Lawyers also allege that insurance paid out $150 million for the fire’s damage and the artists didn’t see any of that recovery money.
