State invests in tackling Sickle Cell disease

State law will be changing soon and requiring the state health department to expand it’s initiatives to treat Hoosiers with Sickle Cell disease in under-served areas.

Roughly 100,000 Americans live with the disease.

The new law comes with a $260,000 per-year boost for treatment and education.

Treatments can help relieve symptoms, lessen complications and prolong life.

The plan is to expand treatment initiatives to places that need it most, like Gary and Fort Wayne.
