MPD: Shots fired leads to charges for 27-year-old Marion man

On Wednesday Marion police officers charged a Marion man in connection with shooting a 9 mm handgun in the area of 31st and Nebraska streets.

According to police, around 8:40 p.m. they located four 9 mm shell casings lying in the roadway. After speaking with individuals in the area, they advised that a possible suspect was a 27-year-old man who went by the name of “Buddha.”

Bystanders stated they saw a white Chevy Impala with several occupants, including Buddha, had fled the area.

A short time later, JEAN Team members located a vehicle parking behind a residence in the 800 block of S. Gallatin St. Officers saw a male exiting the Impala carrying a black handgun. He was identified as being Prentice M. Murphy (aka: Buddha).

Murphy was charged with invasion of privacy and possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.

The four spent 9mm shell casings and the recovered handgun will be sent to IPS laboratory for comparison testing.
