Holcomb Says Muncie Schools Takeover Was Necessary

Though he and legislators are being criticized by educators around the state, Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb said the takeover of Muncie Community Schools was absolutely necessary, since the school system was about to go bankrupt unless the state stepped in to help.

The governor says another major factor in the Muncie takeover was that Ball State was willing to take on the job of running Muncie Schools.  He also noted Ball State’s unique expertise in education.

The state earlier this year agreed to loan Muncie Schools 12-million dollars to keep it afloat.
