Grant Co. Health Board Approves Smoking Ban

The Grant County Health Board yesterday passed an ordinance that would ban all smoking in all public places in Grant County, including bars and clubs that currently allow it.

According to the “Chronicle-Tribune,” the Health Board cited what it called “an overwhelming consensus in the medical and scientific communities that exposure to second hand smoke can cause death and disease in non-smokers.”   On a 4-to-2 vote, they passed a proposed ordinance that would outlaw smoking in all public indoor facilities.  The ordinance would also ban e-cigarettes in public places.

Numerous owners and patrons of local bars spoke against the measure prior to the board taking a vote on it.

Though the ordinance was passed by the Health Board, it must be approved by the Grant County Commissioners before it can take effect.
