The Grant County Commissioners will formally receive a proposal for a county-wide smoking ban today from the County Health Board…but they will not hold a public hearing on the proposal today, nor will they vote on the proposal.
The County Health Board passed the proposal for a smoking ban more than two-weeks ago, but they haven’t formally presented it to the Commissioners yet for their approval. The Commissioners can’t vote on it today, nor hold a public hearing on it until the plan is advertised in local newspapers at least a week apart to give the public a chance to read it. Once that happens, the Commissioners can schedule a public hearing on it, then they can schedule a vote on it.
Commissioner Mike Burton says that process could take until late October.
