Legislature May Study Moving Indiana To Central Time

Several Indiana lawmakers want to move the entire state back into the Central Time Zone.

A resolution was introduced in the State Senate to urge the legislative council to study which time zone is best for the state.  A similar resolution was introduced in the House last month and sent to the Committee on Homeland Security and Transportation.  It noted that Indiana was on Central Time until 1965, when “existing technology” caused the move to Eastern Time. That technology, they say, has been “negated” in the present day and the three-hour difference with the West Coast “creates costly inconveniences” in the business world.

Fifty Indiana school boards and 25-thousand Hoosiers have signed a resolution supporting the move back to the Central Time Zone.
