Don’t expect to see Saturday bus service in Marion any time soon. City Transportation Director Chuck Martindale told the city Board of Works that the cost of providing such service is prohibitive.
Martindale was asked to study the cost of providing such service in Marion, and he says there are no available federal or state funds to provide such service. Marion Bus service is paid for Monday through Friday primarily through federal and state grants and has been highly successful.
But Martindale said there’s just no money available to provide bus service on Saturdays.
Martindale said if Marion offered the service on Saturdays, they would need at least a thousand riders per day paying about five-dollars per trip.
