Cathy Moritz resigned from the Marion School Board yesterday, following calls for her resignation stemming from a Facebook post that she made a month ago.
Moritz posted a “like” for a tweet from comedienne Roseanne Barr over a comment she made about a former aide to former President Barack Obama who was an African-American. Moritz said the “like” was inadvertent and she removed it soon afterwards. She also stepped aside as President of the School Board.
But local African American residents said they were not satisfied with that move and wanted her to resign from the board. Tuesday, she did just that.
The Marion School Corporation is now accepting applications to fill the opening on the board. Applications will be accepted through July 3rd. The person selected to fill the position will hold that seat through the end of this year and be eligible to run for a full term in the November election.
