Marion’s Board of Zoning Appeals cancels request for a radio tower near Kendall Elementary

The City of Marion’s Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) met yesterday with three out of five members present, which meant they were finally able to discuss a proposed 300-foot radio tower between Kendall Elementary and Justice Intermediate.

City Planning Director Sam Ramsey told the board that due to opposition from neighboring citizens, they’ve decided to cancel the request and look elsewhere.

Two of the three proposed radio towers are now on hold after Grant County Commissioner Ron Mowery said he would not vote in favor of one tower being built at Walnut Creek Golf Course.

The County Commissioners approved a Memorandum of Understanding for the proposed tower at the old Liberty Elementary School building, located at Strawtown Pike and 800 S. in Fairmount, upon approval from the Grant County BZA.
