Over the last half decade, Family Video has stood as the last of the major video rental store chains in the U.S. The company informed its remaining 300 stores this week that they will have to sell off their inventory and close for good by late February. Some store managers have said their business has been down 50-percent since reopening from pandemic shutdowns with no signs of bouncing back. District manager Kristin Drisko told WIBC in September another contributing factor to their financial hardship was a lack of a big-name movie from Hollywood, with they too also exercising COVID restrictions.
