Long-term Marion City Council Member of District 5 Don Wayne Batchelor has died.
According to fellow council member Robin Fouce, Batchelor succumbed to his illness on Wednesday, surrounded by loved ones.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
Prior to his passing, Batchelor had been absent from the council for approximately 10 months, while battling health issues.
According to election records, Batchelor served on the council for five terms, with his current term slated to end in 2023. It remains unclear how the council will address the now-vacant seat.
